Boomers are booming!

Looking Ahead

     Wow!  It's 2016!
Already we're looking toward the second decade of the twenty-first century.
Weren't we supposed to be zooming around in flying cars by now?  Weren't we supposed to have personal robots doing our work for us while we headed off for vacation on Mars?  Where is Marty McFly's hoverboard?
Our world doesn't match the imaginations of some sci fi writers of the past.  We haven't colonized the moon.  But, Russia just announced plans to do just that.

We aren't being teleported from one place to another.  But our parents and grandparents would be amazed at aspects of our lives that we take for granted. They couldn’t have imagined walking around with a telephone in their pockets. A computer would have been unimaginable to our grandparents, and one you could carry around would have astonished our parents.
Heart transplants, artificial limbs, cornea transplants, satellite television, computer chips in our cars and our kids’ toys, microwave ovens, digital technology, men and women in space all was the stuff of science fiction just a couple of generations ago.
Sure we live in an imperfect world. We can't seem to resolve geopolitical issues that have haunted the human race for thousands of years, and we can't seem to cure the common cold.
But, the speed at which information travels and grows and what that means for scientific and medical research bodes well for cures for all the major diseases sooner rather than later.
Who knows what the next big thing will be?  Some say the science of robotics is going to change our lives in ways we can't imagine.  Or perhaps the development of artificial intelligence will be the next big game changer.  Maybe new energy resources will result in undreamed of transportation and power generation.

Whatever is ahead, the future is now, and we’re blessed to be living in this remarkable age. We need only to look around us…and be amazed!
